ANCA and TYA Hold High-level Meeting at NSW Parliament
Earlier this morning, a delegation from the Assyrian National Council of Australia Inc. (ANCA) and The Young Assyrians (TYA) held a high-level meeting at the New South Wales (NSW) Parliament. The meeting was graced by Dr. Ron Susek as our esteemed guest of honour.
This crucial gathering focused on discussing the plight of Indigenous Assyrians and addressing the human rights violations that they face. The delegation brought to light several key issues during the meeting.
Foremost among these were the ongoing demographic shifts that threaten the existence of Assyrian communities in their ancestral homelands. These shifts lead to displacement and a significant reduction in the Assyrian population in these regions.
Another major concern raised was the spread of misinformation and disinformation online, specifically targeting Assyrians. This not only distorts the perception of Assyrians globally but also exacerbates the challenges they face by fuelling prejudice and misunderstanding.
Safety concerns for Assyrians in their native territories were also discussed in detail. The delegation emphasised the urgent need for measures to ensure the security and well-being of Assyrians, who frequently face violence, discrimination, and other forms of persecution.
In addition to these pressing issues, the delegation shared information about their latest initiative, Visit Assyria. This program is designed to encourage young Assyrians to visit and maintain a connection with their Traditional Homelands.
By fostering a sense of identity and heritage, Visit Assyria aims to strengthen community ties and ensure that the rich cultural legacy of the Assyrian people is preserved for future generations. The delegation reaffirmed their commitment to advocating for the Assyrian community and called on the Australian Government to take concrete actions to support Assyrian rights, security, and right to self-determination.
